  1. Greetings from a warmer place! Seals, penguins, and whales, oh my!

We have two questions. Connor would like to know how many hours of daylight you get each day.
Anna is wondering if you have built a snowman yet?

We love having the privilege to be a part of this beautiful adventure!

    • Hi there!

Today we are in Neko Harbor and the weather is gorgeous! Several of the guests and naturalists were reading your poems on the hillside this morning – it was a lot of fun.

We are traveling the Paradise Bay now for some kayaking and zodiac tours this afternoon.

Connor – we seem to have about 24 hours of daylight. While the sun officially “sets” around midnight each night and “rises” around 3:30 a.m. it is light enough to read a book outside at all times.

Anna – no snowmen, sorry! We did get to slide down a big hill this morning at Neko Harbor and it was great fun, but we are supposed to impact the snow/ice/wildlife as minimally as possible. No snowmen and no writing our names in the snow…

I can’t wait to share all of my photos, videos and stories about Antarctica with all of you.

  2. Hello from Mrs. Neuman’s class at Canyon Creek. What type of seal is in the top picture? What type of penguins? Did you actually see a killer whale? We think we saw one in yesterday’s post.

Are you up close to the animals when you are photographing them or are you using a telephoto lens?

Have fun. Wish we were there!!!

    • Hi there!

The naturalists on board are loving your poems!

The seal is a Weddell Seal and those penguins are mostly Adelie Penguins. The one on the far right is a Gentoo I think. We actually saw about 5 or 6 Killer Whales – it was SO amazing. I am using my zoom a bit, but I don’t have a fancy lens and I am terrible with my camera. The animals are really that close. We have been withing a few feet of the penguins and as close as 15-ish feet to the seals. There have been several Humpback Whales surfacing right next to the boat.

I have detailed posts I will send your way as soon as I can get them organized. I cannot wait to share it with you!
